What it does

The chargeFUZE mobile web app allows users to rent portable chargers after scanning a QR code displayed on a physical charging station.

Opportunity

Users scanning at a charging station needed a faster, more focused checkout experience to complete their rental. This was an opportunity to redesign the flow for first-time users by improving clarity and reducing cognitive load.

The core challenge was simplifying the checkout without removing information first-time users needed to feel confident completing a rental.

Simplifying the Experience

The previous checkout contained multiple layers of content, pricing details, and system messaging competing for attention. The redesign simplified the hierarchy, reduced noise, and brought key pricing details into the flow so users could complete their rental without referencing the physical station.

Rethinking Promo & Payment Interactions

The previous payment section displayed all options at once: card fields, promo input, and payment methods together on a single mobile screen. I redesigned these interactions to prioritize express checkout while keeping secondary options accessible without cluttering the main flow.

Takeaway

Checkout drop-off rarely comes from one thing, and seeing the conversion rate improve after addressing multiple friction points was a strong validation of that.

If I were to continue, I'd want to look beyond the app itself and understand the environment users are in when they scan and rent. Public settings introduce distractions and context that no amount of in-app optimization can fully account for.
